A Day Out With Northern - 3rd July 2017

Image
The day started off well for me with a good cup of tea and some french toast - known to me for all my life as "eggy bread" - before having my dad take me to the station in plenty of time to pick up my Northern Day Ranger. I headed to Platform 2 for 2R82 0902 Hull to York which, this day, had Class 142 142012 in charge. This has become a booked pacer turn as it was once a Pacer turn, then a 155 turn, back to a Pacer, then a 156 diagram before ending up as a 158 run. The return to it being a 142 run is very much welcomed by me! After arriving at Selby, I got off and watched the unit disappear into the distance to finish its journey to York There was then a 12 minute wait on the adjacent Platform 3 until 2W69 0954 Selby to Huddersfield set off in the charge of Class 144 144009 and Class 153 153307 - the 144 was leading on this service. The run in was good until Bradley Junction (I believe) when the train started riding the brakes for a quarter mile until the signal p...

Why I Am Grateful To My Railway Family and Friends

Over the last few months, I've been able to greatly indulge my passion for trainspotting - indeed, some weeks ago I "scored" my first ride on the new Crossrail/Elizabeth Line Class 345 EMUs (albeit as a TFL Rail service). Now, you might be wondering if I am rich to be able to afford all these trips out, but this is not the case at all... If some of you read my lengthy post a while ago (Click here for a Read), you will know that I suffer from bouts of depression - I am thankful that the extremes of depression are not so bad most days when it happens which is often far apart! The health problems, though, are not too bad at the moment, but can sometimes flare up badly. Because of this and the fact I am not always in the best of health with a long term complaint/issue, I don't always get to do my hobby of train spotting which is something I have loved for my entire life. # After settling all of my bills and prescription charges, I put what's left aside and save up...

The Harekaze's Real Battle Damage

Why Did She Sink? SPOILERS AHEAD The last two episodes of, what I hope to be, the first Season of High School Fleet (also known as Haifuri) is, I think, one of the greatest animated naval combat moments ever. Spread out over two episodes, the  Harekaze catches up to the Musashi  and is ordered to keep track of the other vessel until the Blue Mermaid fleet arrives and can disable the Musashi  and board her to save the crew from the effects of a virus. The only crew on the battleship not affected are the Captain and several Bridge crew as well as a crewmember they found being chased. Of note is the fact that Musashi 's Captain, Moeka China, is friends with the Harekaze 's Captain, Akeno Misaki since their childhoods. Now we come to the point of this blog post - why does the damage heard, seen and discussed not match up with how she sinks later on... Shortly after making contact with Musashi , the Harekaze  is fired upon. There are no hits seen or mentioned,...

How Star Wars Rebels Saved My Life

I've talked about it for some time now, off and on, and I've decided my first real blog post will be how Star Wars Rebels saved my life and got me out of a pit of terrible depression and despair... When Star Wars: Rebels started being shown in the UK, I was feeling completely down, my partner had left me for a former friend of mine, I felt depressed and feeling worthless - to sum it up, I was feeling suicidal and I am not ashamed to admit that... Watching episodes of the first season, I thought it was just a bunch of people who got together to fight the Empire and so I ignored the show (I wrote it off as a bad job) and became depressed more and more until I saw #AhsokaLives trending on twitter. By that point, I was suicidal and had tried taking my own life but the return of somebody, albeit fictional, that I cared for very deeply suddenly gave me a bright spot in my life. I went back and watched all of that season again and again - trying to find what I had missed before. F...
