Why I Am Grateful To My Railway Family and Friends
Over the last few months, I've been able to greatly indulge my passion for trainspotting - indeed, some weeks ago I "scored" my first ride on the new Crossrail/Elizabeth Line Class 345 EMUs (albeit as a TFL Rail service). Now, you might be wondering if I am rich to be able to afford all these trips out, but this is not the case at all... If some of you read my lengthy post a while ago (Click here for a Read), you will know that I suffer from bouts of depression - I am thankful that the extremes of depression are not so bad most days when it happens which is often far apart! The health problems, though, are not too bad at the moment, but can sometimes flare up badly. Because of this and the fact I am not always in the best of health with a long term complaint/issue, I don't always get to do my hobby of train spotting which is something I have loved for my entire life.

After settling all of my bills and prescription charges, I put what's left aside and save up for a rover of some kind. I eagerly look in the paper for Northern's £10/£17.50 offers so I can cut out the tokens. Because of this, I have been to many places I could only dream of and met so many wonderful members of Northern's train crew including Jon who I have a good friendship with and recently met back up with on a number of spirited runs along the Northern network

A trip to London, normally done on a Megabus Plus ticket, allows me to travel behind East Midlands Trains's HST fleet to savour locomotive hauled trains. Recently, EMT even managed to help me out when another train was late which meant I missed my service with them for East Mids Parkway - they managed to get the Megabus held back until I arrived
I think I promised them the life of my first born child for that... *rubs chin in thought* Actually, I hope they don't collect!!!
I have always found them a friendly bunch of people on twitter - even, when it is very quiet, playing "I-Spy" and "Guess The Station" over twitter which is a fun thing in itself

Lately, Virgin Trains East Coast have been doing a number of "Hot Cakes" offers where fares can be as low as £5 and £20 for standard and first respectively for one way journeys. Although these have been at weekends, meaning only the "healthy" breakfast is on offer, I have taken full advantage of this and had some great adventures and runs up the East Coast Main Line feeling that, even if it was on a HotCakes offer, I was actually worth something and that feeling would keep me in a happy mood for a few days...

Most people say that train travel is only good for getting people from A-B
Its also good for people's mental health
